Rules and Guidelines

Team Lightning welcomes skaters of most skill levels, from total beginners all the way to advanced and experienced racers.  However, to keep everyone safe in such a diverse environment, all skaters are required to follow a few guidelines.
  • Helmets are REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES.  Other protective equipment is optional, but we highly recommend wearing it, especially until you become comfortable on your skates and on the track.
  • You must have your own skates.  Inlines or quads are acceptable.  Our team can help you find the proper skates so don't let that stop you from inquiring.  You just can't rent them from the rink.
  • You must already know how to skate and control your speed and direction.  You don't have to be an expert or really fast.  Our club will teach you the skills required for speed skating and the speed will follow.  This is not a proper environment for those looking for basic skating lessons.  If you would like lessons, contact us and we can put you in touch with the appropriate organization.  If you have any questions about whether or not this is the proper environment for you, please feel free to contact us.
  • You are not too old, too young, too slow, or too out of shape to try speed skating.  We have a very diverse team and welcome everyone who wants to try.
  • You must follow the rules of the track and the direction of the coaches at all times.  This is imperative for maintaining a safe training environment.
  • Have fun!  Yes, we do have competitive skaters on the team, but in the end we are all there because we love skating.  We want to keep our environment positive and encouraging.
